Our vanilla sponge cake has been described as a piece of heaven on a plate. It's soft spongy texture and light crumb is delicious by itself, but when sandwiched with the highest quality strawberry jam on the market and fresh whipped butter icing, it's delectable. This delicious sponge is then coated in a layer of sugar icing to keep it extra moist and fresh whilst we decorate and deliver. Our vanilla sponge cake is baked, then split with jam and cream, and finally decorated and delivered within a very short space of time to ensure freshness and quality.
Our Strawberry Jam
After a valiant expedition around the country’s finest jam makers, we found our winner in the town of Tiptree, in the heart of the English countryside in Essex. Best known for its production of jams and preserves, this little town is surrounded by orchards. Fruit farming began here in 1864. What attracted us mostly was ’Thursday’s Cottage’s’ artisanal lustre. They are a small production unit who make a variety of different preserves, curds and marmalades. Each of their products is made in small batches by hand because it keeps the fruit whole and makes a better product. The specially selected whole fruit is cooked in open pans- and our strawberry jam is made with handpicked finest fruit from the farms own strawberry crop.
It easily won us over in the taste test with it’s deep rich flavour and perfect consistency for spreading, neither too lumpy nor thin, but perfectly smooth as whole fruit jam can be. Staying true to their artisanal roots, you won’t find Thursday Cottage products in the major supermarkets because they support independent trade, which is where they started over fifty years ago.
All our vanilla sponge cakes are skillfully packaged inside secure and recyclable packaging to guarantee your cake arrives looking brilliant – and it’s this attention to detail that makes our cakes taste so delicious. If you wish to order, we will require at least 2 working days notice to ensure delivery. We deliver Monday-Friday and cakes that are intended for a weekend, will keep fresh when delivered on a Thursday or Friday.
